Skojenmeister's Guide to: How to be a Successful Mayor in Monoford

This guide will give you the underpinning knowledge on how to become a successful Mayor in Monoford.
Please note that to be a successful Mayor, you need to have a basic understanding of how budgets work.
This is a technical guide on how to be a Mayor in Monoford!

Terminology:

Budget - allow or provide a particular amount of money in a budget.
MPD - Monoford Police Department.
Mayor's Rating - This is the popularity rating of the Mayor.
any negative actions that are caused by the Mayor can have a significant drop in his/her Mayor's Rating.
City Budget - Money, which is earned through taxes, that is transferable to departments (e.g., MPD, Security, Fire Department).
SS - Secrert Service (your protection detail).

  • After getting elected as Mayor, the first action you MUST do is to take out money from all of the departments. For example: Police Budget is $17,000. You need to transfer $15,000 from the PD Budget into the City Budget (this leaves Monoford Police Department with $2,000, instead of having $17,000).

Remember, the key to being a successful Mayor is to have a stable city budget. If your city budget is not stable,
then your departments will not be stable enough to function properly.

  • Your second order of business MUST be to set General Taxes to 30%. If there are no taxes rolling in to fund your city budget, you might as well quit your job. Job Taxes and General Taxes are very crucial to your job as a Mayor. You will spend most of your time giving budget to MPD (Monoford Police Department) from your city budget. Think of yourself as a glorified accountant in this job role, your main task is to deliver budget. If you fail to give budget to MPD, you will soon know about it as they will come crawling to your office.

General Taxes/Job Taxes should be set at 15% to 30%.
Keep in mind that players may ask you to lower the taxes to 0% for short peroids of time.
If you decide to lower taxes to 0% for peroids of 15 minutes or less for each hour, you should still have
enough city budget for the departments to function properly on.

  • The third task you should do after setting taxes to 30% for long peroids of time is to hide. Yes, literally hide. The citizens of Monoford will not be pleased by how you have set taxes to the maximum amount. The location where I resort to is MPD holding cells - it is safe and a stress free location. Sure, it might not make your image look good as a Mayor but afterall, your safety is important.
Now, after the city budget has peaked above $60,000 - $80,000, it is now safe to say that you can set all taxes to 0%. There is now no need for you to accumlate more income for the city budget.

This is the time where you make an annoucement to say: "There will be a 0% Tax Cut to General Taxes & Job Taxes until I leave office". By doing this, the citizens should no longer hold a grudge against you - it is now safe for you to exit MPD into the streets again (assuming your Mayor's Rating is above 30%).

  • As this is not a beginners guide to being a Mayor, you should know already that your Mayor's Rating is important. As long as you are providing a stable budget to all departments, you should be fine; moreover, completing tasks in the Events section on your department tablet by selecting the right actions should mean that your rating shouldn't drop significantly - if anything, you should be gaining more ratings!

This plan can only work if you agree to work with MPD. If you cannot work with Monoford Police Department in any shape or form, then you should not be the Mayor. As someone that is Whitelisted for Chief of Police, working with the Mayor is vital. There should be a close connection and bond between the Mayor and the Chief of Police. It is your sole duty to work alongside with all of your departments, ensure you have close bonds with all of the department leaders!

Departments That Need Budget:
Monoford Police Department
Monoford Fire Department
Health Professionals
Public-Serving Jobs
Secret Service
Bank Security

Let your city budget be prepared for Bank Raids & High Priority Callouts -
Your city's budget money will burn faster than you might think.
How do you prevent bankrupting your city budget? You simply save up to $60,000 - $80,000 for all events
(This is one of the main reasons why the city budget should be at that figure, be prepared for those situations).

  • Now, you should start to see yourself as a successful Mayor. Not only do you have an extremely good city budget, but you also have the trust of the people of Monoford and MPD. As mentioned before, the way to have 0% taxes is if you save enough money for that to happen. It is impracticable to set your goal to have 0% taxes when you first start as Mayor because you'll get removed from office faster than how the city budget burns.

Secrert Service - Your Personal Secruity Detail Team.
  • Moving on to your Secret Service - The secret key to having a great team of SS agents is one crucical element: communication. If you are you not communicating clearly to your team of security detail, issues will be caused by poor communication. You should select a team that you can trust and have good chemistry with (although, this is not always possible). As Mayor, it is your duty to listen to your security team in events where your life is in danger or if a nearby dangerous situation is occuring.
To be a successful Mayor, you need to micromanage & arrange your staff. Appoint a lead SS (an Agent responsbile for overseeing all secuirty operations). This is particulary important because there needs to be a hirearchy in your team. For example, in an event of you being unconscious or incapacitated as the Mayor, the lead SS will lead his/her team to protect you. This is why communication is imperative.

If for any reasons your SS do not cooperate with you and do become difficult to work with, do not demote them at the first instance. Try and see through their problems. Their issues could be a manifestation of your behaviours, which is why it is important for you to establish a good communication with your team to find the root of the problem.

Generally speaking, your staff must be with you at all times in public settings (banks, hospitals and streets). Failure for your team to be with you could result in assassination attempts, kidnappings and all types of physical harm. Be with your staff at all times, unless if it is safe for you to be there alone.

Lead by Example

  • As someone that will be leading a city, you MUST lead by example. Your actions, words and behaviours will be observed at all times. It is always important to remain professional and diligent in your job role as the Mayor. Your peers and co-workers will be lead by you. You are responsible for your own actions.
How do I lead by example as the Mayor?
Simply, you must be:

- Accountable for your own actions.
- Respectful in your job role.
- Willing to listen to others.
- Professional at all times.
- Supportive and willing to take risks.
- Helpful and informative.
- Law abiding
- Hardworking.

If you adopt these 8 important key attributes, you will lead by example. However, do not expect everyone at Monford to have good intentions. Just so long as you are being responsible for your own actions, there should be no reason for you to get into trouble on the server and by Law Enforcement in roleplay.

Furthermore, leading by example will also mean that people will respect you more as Mayor. This is one of those professional job roles where you are in the spotlight at all times. Unlike the EMS Director and the Fire Chief, you and the Chief of Police are responsible for the safety & protetction of the Monoford City; the difference between you and the Chief of Police is that the Mayor makes the policies, the Chief of Police implement and enforces those policies.

This guide is still in development. More infomation will be added soon.

Have you considered having a constant 10% general/job tax for a while? As long as the city doesn't descend into a complete shit show it should leave you enough money to get through emergencies without drawing too much hate.

Yes, I have done it before. Most players are not too bothered about 30% taxes if you sometimes periodically lower them to 0% for 15 minutes or when they ask.

I raked up nearly $100,000 in taxes yesterday, it's safe to say that method worked.
