Opening inventory freezes game

My friend just recently joined the game and when ever he opens his inventory he is unable to move his mouse or close out of his inventory.

Things we have tried to fix this: pressing Q/F3 to close it, pressing close in the top right does nothing, reset all his binds, He cant even press escape because the overlay goes over it.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.
