Under police detective rules it says that detectives can equip and use and weapon of their choice. This is clearly stated. Police supervisors are apparently nullifying this rule, and leaving the decision to the discretion of the chief. Nowhere in the handbook or operating manual is this stated. I would just carry the gun anyway but I'll get demoted without warning and staff will side with the chief. This rule needs clarified in the manual or changed, because as it stands according to the server rules I am 100% allowed to carry any weapon of my choosing.

@mrnex235 and @Clutch Master FTW both asserted that chief has the rule over this, for reference.

@Thegamingshain @PMX I assume one of you would be the one to clarify this so I'll tag you aswell

The whole purpose of being a detective is to investigate crime and partake in illegal activities. This infiltration may require detectives to operate a variety of weapons, so as to avoid blowing their "cover", to which our rules clearly state:
  1. Detectives are allowed to equip and use any weapon of their choice while on duty. This is required when e.g. basing with people to not blow their cover.
Although, I do see some room for improvement:

First and foremost, your job as a detective is dynamic, as such certain scenarios may warrant the use of different weapons, depending on the circumstances surrounding the use of that weapon. That is to say, if you're going to be basing with criminals and you need to use a Honey Badger, that is perfectly fine. However, if you're going to be investigating crimes, such as growing marijuana, or doing minor casework, perhaps a concealed handgun that is approved by the Department's policy (the one issued to you) would be the most appropriate.

However, as far as it is written at this current moment, there is no room to argue that Detectives can carry "whatever they want", but this does provide some good feedback on the ruleset.

I have been told that detectives need permission from chief or captain to Carry and operate Class-3 weapons, I've also seen that detectives with Class-3 weapons often get mistaken as criminals and shot by marked police officers and that causes problems, if this is wrong then my mistake and I apologize.

Ever since I joined monolith all staff, Thy, knight, multiple others like gm. I think even PMX, have told me that detectives DO NOT have to get permission from the chief/ higher rank then them to use a class 3. Mainly because if a shootout starts, they should be able to respond quickly and join the firefight. The only time I can see this being an issue, is if they don’t identify over radio before carrying it. If the detective is currently investigating a shooting/shooter and walking around the city with it on his back for protection while chasing/confronting someone. I don’t see it to be an issue. Blowing your cover like that to provide extra firepower should not ever be against the rules/policy.

However, I believe in the lawbook/rules it should be clarified wether the chief/higher rank than detective can take away their permission. This would obviously have to be for a good reason since it depends on wether or not they need to go undercover hints why the chief would want them to disarm for the time being. Mainly because walking around with a class 3 is an obvious “oh that’s a detective”.

So technically speaking in roleplay yes if the chief tells you to disarm you should, but there is no present lawbook policy or rule stating they can actually force you to.
