Monoford Police Department

Department Actions

From this moment on, after discussing it with the Department's Command, a strike system will be implemented, in order to ensure Monoford Police Department's officers perform their job properly, to the best of their ability, in a professional manner, according to the established laws (permanent and temporary). Should any officer or member of the department act in an unprofessional and/or illegal manner, appropriate action will be taken, by the Department's Command, against that person. Furthermore, such infractions will be registered in the person's record, along with their severity. These actions will take into account any and all previous strikes on the person's department record, and may result in the person being suspended, temporarily or indefinitely, from the department.

Suspended officers and members of the Police Department will only be able to perform their jobs after the suspension period is over. During their suspension, they will not receive their salary, unless stated otherwise by the Department's Command and will be forced to hand over their badge, department's weapon(s) and vehicle(s).

Possible Actions:
If an officer or member of the department reaches a total of:
  • 5 severity points, they will be suspended from the department for 1 week;
  • 10 severity points, they will be suspended from the department for 1 month;
  • 15 severity points, they will be suspended from the department for 4 months (from all Department positions);
  • 20 severity points, they will be suspended from the department for 6 months (from all Department positions).
If an officer or member of the department reaches a total of severity points higher than 20, they can be suspended indefinitely or for a limited period defined by the Police Command.
All of the suspension periods mentioned above can be adjusted by the Police Command, on a case to case basis, and are subject to change without notice.

Authority:

Police Department Supervisors and members of the Training division are able to instate infractions to any officers and member of the department, if they are carrying out (or try to carry out) actions that are unlawful and that do not respect the department's rules and guidelines. All infractions must be inserted in the person's department record. However, each suspension will be reviewed by the Department's Command. They have the final word in all cases.

Personal Records:

Police Department Records are available to Police Supervisors and Command. All information present in such records is classified and must be kept internal. Failure to comply will result in immediate demotion and any other actions permitted by law.

Misconduct Investigations:

Any investigation into misconduct by an officer will take into account the facts and evidence of the incident, based on all available information. While expectations and officer's rights and powers are set out in policy, the extent to which these have been adhered to will be measured by the facts of the situation, and NOT whether an officer had reasonable cause, or conviction that their actions were lawful, at the time of being committed. To clarify - any misconduct will be regarded as such, regardless of intent. Officers remain entirely responsible for their own misjudgements or indiscretion.

Best Regards,
Police Department Command
