Title: old scopes
Links, videos, context: like a year ago scopes didn't have that zoom that we have now, I think developers misunderstood some people who asked the zoom to be increased on sniper scopes. The current zoom is just really bad and all the people that I talk to have the same opinion.

it was done to apparently help counter aimbot cheats, but why not just slightly zoom out instead of zooming in like you’re in a 50x scope

It wasn't really for this. It was mainly for a meta shift.

I have some changes made in the Silk Road Update (2.1) to these things already. You'll enjoy the changes.
