Ever since I started playing on Monolith with my new pc, I've been lagging a god awful lot. I'm talking about averaging 20 fps max at outskirts, on a pc that costs over $1,900 to build. I've gotten to the point where I've pretty much tried everything there is. You would think that a computer that costs $1,900 could run way over 20 fps, but in this case no. Maybe it's just the fact that Garry's mod is a horribly optimized game in general, but the funny thing is that I averaged 60 fps on my other computer that has crap specs.

Having similar issues like this in the past on other computers led me to believe that it was a simple fix, but it is obviously not.

I've been researching fixes for the past two days and I've quite frankly became sick of it, so
all I'm asking is for any possible solutions to fix this issue.

Don't bother posting simple solutions like turning down my video settings, or enabling multi-core rendering, because I've tried them all already.

One thing that I would like to point out is that I average around 60 - 200 fps on games such as GTA 5, Fallout 4, and Arma 3.

My specs are posted here

  1. You are playing Gmod - that's the main problem here
  2. Source Engine
  3. Not optimized for newer hardware
  4. Source Engine

The thing I don't get though is how other players have the same specs / hardware as me and manage to get high fps

Always depends on where you are standing and what you are aiming/look at.

I've got a laptop and I get a constant 20-40 FPS on outskirts, around 10FPS in the city (depends on the player count but 10 is the lowest)

What the hell? I have a $1400 PC and it gets easily 50-70FPS around the city and over 60FPS contantly in the outskirts. I also use newer hardware, I have a 1070 and a i7 6700k. I gradually upgraded the computer, don’t know why yours is having this issue.

Our builds look almost exactly the same lol, same specs and mine is water cooled with a Corsair water cooler and we have the same motherboard. I also have the same monitor as you as my second one, but it’s a 27 inch one. Lol

Update
Finally figured out what was making my game lag so much.
When I enabled Intel integrated graphics so I could run a second monitor since my graphics card only has one hdmi port and no vga port, Garry's mod had been using integrated graphics for some odd reason. The fix was quite simple, all I did was force my pc to use my main graphics card globally throughout my pc.
