Ban Reason: Unacceptable Behavior
Unban Reason:

Hello,

My name is Baljeet Wang and I would like to make a plea for either a ban reduction or unban.

On December 2nd, 2021 at ~7:00 PM PST, I returned to Southside after a weeklong vacation. I found Viktor Sokolov had built another one of his bunkers in the suburban area and I offered to build on his property. After some discussion, we agreed on constructing my signature greenhouse, but the designs eventually evolved into a fortress, which was branded as a concentration camp.

I had no contribution or decision-making over the political branding of the property. While I called it a concentration camp and made up the prisoner terminology (“John Does”), at no point did I make my own suggestions about what the overall theme should be. However, I understand the negative connotation it might have implied given that we still referred to the fortress as a concentration camp, which I regret and am sorry for.

Despite the negative implications of my build, I never used derogatory terms or referred to myself as a nazi or communist. The most I did was refer to the fortress as a “concentration camp” and the “prisoners” as “John Does”. I also want to add that all of the “prisoners” were there voluntarily or could have called 911 using their phone. We never powergamed to keep them on the property and the concentration camp was never actually used.

Beside that, all of the roleplay done on my part, and by others, abided by rule 1.6. Most of my time was really spent building and driving around rather than engaging with players on the property.
RuleDescription
1.6We do not tolerate derogatory slurs towards any group of people, such as racism, homophobia etc., within the community - especially Out-Of-Character. Your in-game character may be offensive to a certain degree HOWEVER, once players feel uncomfortable you have to stop immediately. Be observant and considerate. Things like the N-word and other ethnic slurs are never acceptable - neither Out-Of-Character nor In-Character.

Also note that no report was made against me or anyone else, and the reason for that is because we weren’t trying to be offensive. There was a point where over 10 people were at our property and not one complained about the theming or asked Sokolov to change it. It wasn't until after I finished building, that Spaced Sloth approached us and asked for the theming to be changed / removed. When Sokolov complied and changed it to China, he did not object or make further comments. If Spaced Sloth had an issue with rebranding, he had the opportunity to say so.

I am not sure what led to Arroyo being called online after the original confrontation. I believe Spaced Sloth decided to pursue a punishment based on prior references to the fortress as a concentration camp and the original theming (which again, I had no control over). The reason I say this is because Arroyo opens his argument by claiming that we said we are “rebranding from being Nazis”. I don't recall saying this or referring to myself as such.

Overall, there appears to be some inconsistencies within the staff team on how to handle cases such as this one. There is no rule specifically pertaining to bases that might be offensive, unless you want to apply 1.6 to it, which creates a gray area. Perhaps we needed to be the ones punished in order to set the precedent. Regardless, we were under the impression that it was permitted given two other staff members and the police chief were on the property and didn’t say anything (Video evidence available). Sokolov also claims that other staff members have seen it and never had an issue with it (Video of him listing names available).

Regardless of whether or not this ban appeal is accepted, I do not intend to partake in such controversial activities again and I am sorry for offending anyone. I don’t think I have established myself as a rule-breaking or controversial player, I hope others share the same sentiment.

Sincerely,
Baljeet Wang

Whether or not you made the decision over what theme it should be you did actively contribute. For example, in your own video, it shows you suggesting to bring John Does into the "camp." You contributed and made suggestions to continue this roleplay which is extremely unacceptable.

This is what led up to your guy's bans. You actively referred to your roleplay as concentration camps and tried to kidnap people to work there. Whether or not the people entered voluntarily to work it still refers to Nazism.
Beside that, all of the roleplay done on my part, and by others, abided by rule 1.6. Most of my time was really spent building and driving around rather than engaging with players on the property.

No, your roleplay does not abide by rule 1.6. According to 1.6, it says your roleplay can be offensive to a certain degree, however, having roleplay referencing Nazis is way over the degree. After you guys rebranded you went into Chinese propaganda putting up signs with the Taiwanese flag and putting an "X" over the flag. It does not matter if a report was made against you guys or not, it was completely unacceptable.

Overall, there appears to be some inconsistencies within the staff team on how to handle cases such as this one. There is no rule specifically pertaining to bases that might be offensive, unless you want to apply 1.6 to it, which creates a gray area. There are some inconsistencies with staff which I have noted to the higher-ups about this behavior. Also, technically the Police Chief has right to arrest you all for the Nazi references since it is illegal in U.S Laws.

Your ban only happened last night, this is too early for an unban. Your ban will remain in place for the time being, especially since you guys tried justifying it saying it was all a joke.
