Banned for 3 days, then changed to a month.

I got banned the other day for "RDM" and I logged back in to see how long my ban was and it was for only 3 days so yesterday i logged back on to see if my ban was up and it was changed to a month, why was is it changed for to a much longer sentence after it only being 3 days thats a bit much.
