Instant Replays are not like OBS or other recording software. They are typically far better suited for tasks like gathering evidence or easily getting clips.

+ They do not record entire sessions, this saves storage
+ They are easy to use, and only require a single hotkey to be hit
+ They are entirely free
+ They are light on CPU and memory usage

[RECOMMENDED] Option 1: GeForce Experience

Note:
Replays do not work on 400, 500, 600 and 700 series cards.
Your game must be in fullscreen for Instant Replays to work.

Step 1 - Download & Install

Download can be found here - https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/

Press "DOWNLOAD NOW" to download.

Press the "LOG IN" button.

Create an account, or log in with Google.

[RECOMMENDED] - Update Drivers

Step 3 - Enable In-Game Overlay

Press the gear in the top right next to your profile.

Then, make sure the IN-GAME OVERLAY slider is enabled.

And yes, I left my specs in that picture just to flex on all you nerds.
Why does a man need 256 GB of ram, you might ask?
Sometimes I want chrome to run a little bit faster.

Step 4 - Enable & Customize Instant Replay.

Press ALT and Z at the same time to open the In-Game Overlay. (can be opened out of game too)

Enable, then go to Settings to customize hotkeys, video storage, and length / quality.

Option 2 - Medal.tv

Recommended - max CLIP length 10 minutes, it has full session recording

Step 1 - Download & Install

Step 2 - Sign Up / Log In

Step 3 - Set up hotkeys / Settings

Great guide, but it's not 100% true. Medal can record your whole session (only if you enable it in settings), but can only clip up to 2 minutes. But that's not a problem if you have a editing software. I consider medal a lot better then geforce shadowplay. It is really easy to use and you don't need to enable recording. When you launch your pc it will automatically open up medal and you won't have to worry about you forgetting to record that moment you need to record the most. All you have to do is launch a game and it starts recording. There are multiple settings there that are very useful. I use medal all the time and I have had no issues with it. If I don't want to look through the whole video for that one moment I can easily mark that timestamp with 1 click of a button. I recommend it more then geforce.

Geforce has session recording as well, and recording doesn't need to be enabled, only instant replay, but if you prefer Medal that's understandable - I just don't like to have huge video files.

I prefer medal as it has smaller requirements meaning you can use it on a lower end build

You have a 3090 & 256GB ram yet you still use a 1080p 144hz display?

With Instant Replay you dont have to enable it all the time either? It automatically starts with your computer as well + you can set the clip length up to 20 minutes.

It is automatic, but you have to save the clip itself manually, which I used to forget to do, but with medal it keeps recording until you exit the game and then saves the entire session if you have the setting enabled.

Updated, Medal has 10 minute clip lengths now so I use it. It's amazing now.
