I was just thinking about this after seeing the ending of eminem's new song, which stated 'when will gun laws change', after showing mass shooting across the U.S. My family and myself are conservative Americans, and we were all sickened whenever we hear about a mass shooting. Yet we still support gun rights. The answer why - it's our God given right. This nation was founded on the beliefs that in order to have true freedom, the people should have the ability to overthrow a tyrannical government, which was how we gained independence in the first place. That's why America is the freest country on earth - no other 1st world country gives these inalienable rights to its citizens.
I saw a quote which made me truly understand why the 2nd amendment exits - its so that the first amendment exists, as once we lose our 2nd, we lose our 1st as we have no way to protect it.
The quote stated that:
'When all the guns have been banned,
When all the words have been censored,
When all the history has been erased,
When all the freedom has been taken,
Only then will you realize why the right to bear arms was so high on the list'
Now, I guess your wondering, if gun control was implemented, that would still prevent mass shootings, and you still have access to guns? That doesn't work. Criminals do not follow laws, there would still be a way for them to access some deadly firearms. So guess what happens next, once the government ban a certain type of gun, and there's still shootings they will keep banning guns until we have no access to them. And then we lose our 2nd and 1st.
The reason why I oppose banning or restricting guns is that it prevents law abiding Americans, who aren't responsible for any of the attacks, from having access to certain guns, and innocent people are being punished from the acts of monsters. I support gun control only if it doesn't hinder law abiding citizens. That's why I disagree and support different sections of the new Virginian gun legislation. I support that the state of Virginia should run background checks on people before they are allowed to buy a gun, as law abiding citizen's won't be affected, as their background will be clean. However, I disagree that you are limited to only one firearm per month - as that restricts access to guns for law abiding citizens.
