You do know that Monolith also has a roleplay factor to it, right? There's so much more fun to be had when you roleplay an identity, or open a shop, or provide services to the city as a roleplayed service.
I used to see players come on in factions that would run the mechanics shop, and they'd be chuckling and having fun amongst eachother, they did not need to be "fragging" to have this fun. When I actively played, I would create a "scenario character" that would drive around the map or do something to provoke RP situations with players. Whether it was a man who had no understanding of English being pulled over for speeding, or a crazed man who kidnaps people and takes them into the woods, does "/me steals shoes" and then runs away. When I would actively play PD I would micro-manage the PD and even organize meetings and control the radio and ensure the PD were operating smoothly. When I would play taxi, I would conduct the "Cash Cab" and do trivia with the person riding, and if they won my trivia, I would reward them with RP $ that I made legitimately in-game.
It has nothing to do with the mechanics, it has to do with the mentality one has. It bothers me dearly when I see a player set up a little RP shop, and the first thing some player does is shoot it up for absolutely no reason. Why not interact with the shopkeep? Why not buy items from him which might be cheaper than the MonoMarket or the in-game NPC stores? Why not interact with the playerbase more and joke around in the store, or lounge, or whatever it might be instead of immediately trying to start a gunfight, whatever faction you might be? I even tried, with another staff member, to run stores and we would get immediately killed for seemingly no reason when it was a
fast food restaurant
My point being, I understand very well the state of Garry's Mod is not all there right now, and the mentality is the gun-play. But if you're so bored, and you did all you can do, why not try roleplaying out situations? Why not give back to our community and conduct RP scenarios like lounges or clubs? If our staff see this, they will help you out in any way they can if you ask nicely. We are accommodating to this, and we would love to see our playerbase be more kind to those who like to roleplay, instead of killing them. We do not care if you like fragging, but why go after the people who want to provide
life to the community?
And before someone says "hurr only staff can make shops and stuff!"
This was a player who started this, and with our staffs assistance, they were able to operate a shop. So the mechanics are definitely there, it is up to you as the player to decide how you play the game, the game doesn't decide how you play.
Just my two cents from my two year stint being staff for Monolith.
