COMMUNITY RULES

As with any community, rules and guidelines are important to keep everything running smoothly. We want to create a respectful, welcoming, and friendly community at Monolith. Therefore, we regulate our platforms; please keep our Rules and Terms of Use in mind when interacting on our platforms to ensure that our community is pleasant for members and guests alike. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to our platforms at all times with full discretion. Such an action is likely the consequence of us having deemed that you have breached our Rules or Terms of Use.

Our game servers are regulated by our server rules which are incorporated into these Rules by this reference. The server rules are not exhaustive and will be modified over time as necessary. You are responsible for staying up to date with additions and amendments.

[1] Global Rules

  1. Please do not post anything inappropriate in a friendly community setting. This includes but is not limited to excessive profanity and sexual/illicit content. Hateful, threatening, provocative, or vulgar content is not accepted in this community, nor is any content that infringes on copyright or violates any other applicable law(s).
  2. Discrimination (i.e. racism, intolerance) towards other members is never allowed, including any unfair or prejudicial treatment based on characteristics such as race, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or nationality.
  3. Be courteous and respect your fellow members. Personal attacks, aggressive messages, and passive-aggressive behavior are unacceptable. If you take a particular issue with another user and are unable to reply in a civilized and constructive way to their posts, you should ignore the user.
  4. Posts should always be constructive and on-topic. For common issues, simply telling someone to search is not acceptable. If you disagree with a post and feel the need to reply as such, it’s important that you explain why. Off-topic posts may be moved or deleted as required.
  5. If you feel another user is attacking or being aggressive towards you, report their message to staff. Do not respond publicly. This simply continues the back and forth that derails topics and makes them uncomfortable for other users. If someone attacks you and you respond with an attack, you will be facing disciplinary action regardless of who started it.
  6. All content must be posted in English as it is not possible for us to moderate the forums otherwise. In very specific cases (such as distributing a translation), foreign languages may be used, provided that an English translation is included as well.
  7. Do not bump threads unless you have something new to contribute to the discussion. Bumping refers to posting in a thread solely to move it to the top of the forum or increase its visibility without adding meaningful content. Additionally, avoid replying to discussions that have been inactive for several months or longer unless you have relevant or valuable input.
  8. Please do not attempt to advertise, sell or trade any products or services in our community. This includes advertisements of other communities.
  9. Personal information and private discussions may not be posted unless it’s clear that all parties involved have given their consent.
  10. If a moderator or staff member issues a directive (e.g., asking to stop a particular topic), you must follow it. If you realize after posting that your message goes against their directive, delete it immediately, as failing to do so may be considered ignoring moderation.
  11. If you have a problem with or question about a staff member's decision, contact them privately or submit a message to a Senior Administrator+ through the contact system. Posts or topics discussing staff actions will be removed.
  12. Each user is allowed only one account. Any duplicate accounts will be banned, and creating a new account to evade penalties may result in stricter enforcement, including permanent bans.
  13. Do not post content intended to incite drama, conflicts, or 'flame wars' with other users or communities. If you have a complaint, privately contact staff through the designated channels.
  14. Avoid engaging in political debates, as they often lead to conflict and derail discussions. Our discord focus on gaming-related discussions, and political topics should be kept to personal conversations.
  15. You may only post on application, appeal or complaint threads if you are the thread author, have been tagged in the thread, are a staff member or have any meaningful evidence to add to the situation.
  16. Avoid spoiling major plot points of newly released films, TV shows, or video games for at least 14 days after release. If discussing spoilers, use clearly marked spoiler tags.
  17. You are fully responsible for any actions taken on your account. Violations committed under your account will result in penalties, regardless of who was using it. Keep your login credentials secure to prevent unauthorized access.
  18. Do not impersonate a staff member in any form.
To reiterate, we prohibit any content that:
  1. Is defamatory, abusive, hateful, threatening or insulting.
  2. Is excessive or posted with the intent of harassing someone.
  3. Is spam or spam-like content.
  4. Is likely to offend with no intention of having a constructive discussion.
  5. Contains explicit, gore, adult, or pornographic material.
  6. Contains personal information of other people (otherwise known as doxxing).
  7. Infringes on others’ intellectual property rights including copyright.
  8. Violates or encourages violations of the law.

Common sense applies at all times, rule enforcement is not limited to the above.

If a Moderator or Administrator feels your content or conduct is unacceptable, their decision is final pending potential appropriate appeal and must be respected.

Monolith will not accept any form of abuse towards any member of our community including the staff team.

II. SERVER RULES

Last Updated: 13/02/2024

Our game servers are regulated by these sets of rules which are incorporated into these Rules by this reference. The server rules are not exhaustive and will be modified over time as necessary. You are responsible for staying up to date with additions and amendments.

[0] Terminology

  • RP - Roleplay - To act and speak as if you are the character you are portraying. It means to keep your speech in the context of the setting in which your character exists. Context can be defined as both time and place.
  • IC - In-Character - This refers to anything that relates to what and how your character feels and acts. This does not represent what you believe personally.
  • OOC - Out-Of-Character - This refers to representing yourself and your personal opinions and feelings. This may not interfere with IC roleplay.
  • NLR - (New-Life-Rule) - Your character forgets all events leading up to their death. You may not return to the area where you died until the 10 Minute NLR timer expires, nor act on any information from your past life.
  • Metagaming - Taking OOC to IC or vice-versa. Example: Bob would be walking down the street when he see a citizen who is an undercover cop. However, he uses the scoreboard to know he’s an undercover cop and avoids him based on using information not known to the character.
  • Meta-Baiting - Using OOC to lure someone IC or vice versa. Example: Bob would say in the OOC chat “Free money at the alleyway!” which two people would walk into and Bob mugging them.
  • Powergaming - Forcing your actions upon someone else without any chance for them to resist it at all, causing you to have an unfair advantage. This can range from a deputy holding you down without counter to a criminal dragging you somewhere. Example: Brad grabs Bob and presses him on the ground; he can't move or do anything as he’d ignore the attempts of Bob resisting.
  • RDM - Random Deathmatch - The process of killing people without valid In-Character reasons.
  • RDA - Random Arrest - The process of arresting people without valid In-Character reasons.
  • VDM - Vehicle Deathmatch - The process of killing people without valid In-Character reasons - just with a vehicle.
  • Fail Driving - The process of having no regard to any roleplay when in a vehicle, be it slamming into most if not all objects purposely. Failure to comply with this will result in punishments of FailRP. This is different from in-character reckless driving which is not prohibited by our rules.
  • FailRP - Actions performed by your character that are not realistic and do not correlate with the setting of the server and your roleplay role.
  • FTVL - Failure To Value Life - The act of not valuing the life of your character, such as running into active shootouts.
  • ERP - Erotic Roleplay - Any role-playing activity performed mostly, or exclusively, for the purpose of sexual behavior.
  • Voiding - Ignoring a specific event and the effects it has made on the roleplay - Mainly executed/called by staff members.
  • Stalling - The act of not following orders (for example: whilst under gunpoint) awaiting a friend or someone else to take action.
  • Kidnapping - to seize and detain or carry away by unlawful force or fraud, and often with a ransom demand.
  • Raid - The act of breaking into or illegally entering a property with the intent to rob, kill, or commit any kind of criminal action to its residents, or any items inside the property.
  • Mugging/Robbery - The act of stealing someone's personal belongings without forcibly entering their property.
  • Cop Baiting - The act of excessively provoking Law Enforcement for the sole purpose of having them chase you or incite some other reaction from them for your own mere enjoyment.
  • Heist - A heist is an illegal activity involving one of the following places: Bank(s), Cargo Ship, and Jewelry Store.
  • Police Raid - The act of police engaging with any known or unknown occupants of a building, violent or otherwise, with the intention of apprehending or searching for them.

[1] General Rules

  1. Your expected behavior is not limited to the rules below. Use common sense: When in doubt if something you are doing might be against the rules, it could very well be. If you have any doubts, contact a staff member.
  2. This community has respect as a core value; therefore, we ask that you treat everybody with respect and give them a chance to experience the community.
  3. Do not take matters into your own hands. The staff is here for a reason. Their decisions are final. Do not disrespect or test their patience. Take it to the appropriate discord channel if required.
  4. Slander will not be tolerated within this community; the only place where accusations can be made against other members of the community is within the discord report section and when speaking to an appropriate member of staff. When accusing a member of staff, a higher-ranking staff member should be spoken to - that is, if you don't want to submit a staff report in the appropriate discord channel.
  5. We do not tolerate any malicious or illegal activity on our services. This includes, but is not limited to threatening to Dox or DDoS anyone within the community, to hack a player's account, scam someone of something that has real monetary value, spreading malware, sharing IP addresses, home addresses, phone numbers, names, pictures or email addresses.
  6. We do not tolerate derogatory slurs or discriminatory language against any group, including but not limited to racism, homophobia, and other forms of intolerance. This applies especially in Out-Of-Character (OOC) interactions. While some level of in-character (IC) offensiveness may be permissible for roleplay purposes, you must immediately stop if another player expresses discomfort. Be observant, considerate, and respectful. Racial slurs, such as the N-word, and other offensive ethnic or discriminatory terms are strictly prohibited—both in-character and out-of-character.
  7. Any form of hacking, abusing, or exploiting to gain an advantage over other players is not allowed. Report accidental exploitation to the respective staff members immediately and refrain from using and sharing those.
    1. Community Management reserves the right to instate cheating infractions based on suspicious activity.
  8. Sexual discussions, explicit roleplay, or any form of erotic roleplay (ERP) is strictly prohibited. Engaging in or promoting non-consensual roleplay will result in severe penalties, including permanent bans.
  9. You may not spam in any way or form. This includes but is not limited to, in-game chat, voice chat, and in-game commands.
  10. Advertising products or servers not directly affiliated with Monolith Servers is not permitted in any form.
  11. Commercial use of virtual assets in-game is reserved for Monolith Servers alone. You may not trade in-game money for actual real money or vice versa. The one allowed exception is trading a purchase of Premium Membership for in-game value. Scamming for Premium Membership is strictly forbidden - and you will be permanently removed from our platforms because of it. We do not assume any responsibility for such a trade, and items and funds in said transaction may not be returned to their owner.
  12. The use of anti-AFK scripts or any external game modification software is strictly prohibited. Automating gameplay actions, such as farming or mining, using AI or third-party tools is not allowed. The only exceptions are the +attack, +left, and +right commands, provided that you remain active and can respond immediately to in-game interactions. Failure to respond to a staff member’s attempt to get your attention may result in a rule violation.
  13. You may not grief, troll, harass, or engage in disruptive behavior under the pretense of "roleplay" with the intent to annoy, target, or disrupt other players' experiences. For example, intentionally misusing a role, such as becoming a tow truck driver solely to impound vehicles of players you dislike, is not allowed. All roleplay actions should be fair, reasonable, and contribute to the game environment.
  14. Do not bother staff members regarding ban appeals, refund requests, etc. Doing so may result in the ban appeal, refund request, etc. being denied.
  15. You must report a rule breach when it happens/when a role-play situation is over with. While you await a staff member, do not stall the situation, as a staff member will intervene as they see fit.
  16. Do not engage in backseat moderation. If you witness a rule violation, report it to staff instead of repeatedly calling it out in chat. Excessive public complaints disrupt gameplay and may result in penalties.

  2. Reasons to kill another player expire after 20 minutes. You must also re- initiate the roleplay before acting on that reason.
  3. During a PvP situation, such as muggings and raids, etc., you may not kill surrendered parties, unless they are actively resisting or calling out for help.
  4. While raiding a player you must give a reasonable amount of time for the player being raided to respond, i.e putting their hands up or complying with your demands.
  5. You may only harm Law Enforcement if they pose a direct threat or initiate on you. You may not attack them for writing tickets, past arrests, confiscations, or to assist others—unless they’re in your organization or party.
  6. You may not harm Tow Truck Drivers for towing or impounding your vehicle or that of an organization member or party member, whether it’s current or past.

  10. FearRP must be followed when your character is at an obvious disadvantage. If two or more armed players hold you at gunpoint, you must comply realistically. Drawing a weapon, fleeing, or stalling in these situations is not allowed.
    1. You may not draw or equip your weapon while under FearRP by at least two or more players. FearRP applies when you are exposed to at least two or more held (actively held, not in holster/on back) weapons, whereof at least one is directly pointed at you / off safety.
    2. FearRP does not apply when you are put at gunpoint, or within striking distance of a melee weapon by less than two players. If there are less than two players, you may try to run or fight back. If you have your weapon out (on safety or off safety), you are always allowed to attack players who aim straight at you - independent of how many they are.

[2.3] Metagaming/Powergaming

  1. Metagaming is not allowed. Any kind of information you gain via OOC may not be used IC. Any IC information may not be provided in OOC.

  6. You may not block off any entrances/exits to your building. All entrances need to be accessible at all times.
  7. You may not build unfair defenses. Both parties (attacking and defending) need to be able to look down the barrels of each other's weapons. Unfair defenses include defenses where the attacking party is unable to shoot the defending party without crouching, but the defending party is able to shoot them right away.
  8. You cannot use factory equipment or other indestructible props for base defense purposes.

[2.5] Fail Roleplay (FailRP)

  3. No more than $25,000 in cash can be mugged from a player in a robbery. You cannot force somebody to withdraw money from their bank account and give it to you. As the victim, you have to drop all your money up to $25,000 maximum.
  4. If you are caught by police, and or arrested, any money that you gained from a hostage/kidnapping situation or robbery, MUST be returned on request of the officers.

  2. You may take a maximum of 4 hostages in hostage situations.
  3. You may not kidnap someone for longer than 20 minutes unless there is an active negotiation with Law Enforcement. Staff members have the right to change this time as they see fit.
  4. You may not ask for more than $10,000 for each hostage during a hostage situation.
  5. Hostages can not be from your own team, group, or organization/party. Also, they may not be awarded any funds acquired in the situation they were taken hostage in.

    1. Active participants need to stay within property bounds of the property that's being targeted and may engage in combat.
    2. Passive participants (such as informants) may stay outside the property that's being targeted, but may not engage in combat.
    3. Both active and passive participants count to the maximum number of robbers.
  2. You may not rob someone for the keys to their vehicle or property. You may however force them to unlock their vehicle or property at gunpoint.

  1. You may only perform one raid/heist (this counts for both ownable, un-ownable, and government/public buildings), a hostage/kidnapping situation, or both situations simultaneously, per 30 minutes. This counts for both successful and unsuccessful situations. Survivors of a raid may ignore the "raid cooldown" if they decide to free organization/party members from police custody or retrieve lost gear from the Police Department, which will start a new raid cooldown.

  5. Prop placement during a raid, heist, or gunfight is strictly forbidden. Law Enforcement is exempt from this rule as long as it’s done to set a perimeter.
  6. The Third-Person view inside vehicles may not be utilized to gain an unfair advantage over other players. Gathering information about defense setup and people’s positions is prohibited.
  7. You may not perform hostage situations nor hide or barricade yourself for defense purposes in spawn areas, including the casino, hospitals, and church.
  8. Counter raids can only be performed on player ownable buildings or on the Cargo Ship. You may not counter raid a government building or a player ownable building/Cargo Ship if it is currently being raided by police at the time. Law Enforcement is exempt from this entire rule.

[4.3] Organizations

  1. Crew names must be reasonable and can't suggest or contain any racial, sensitive topics or profound words. Examples such as "Isis", "Meme Lords", and "Nazi" are unacceptable. This is up to staff discretion.
  2. You may not kill other players just because you are in an organization. Being in an organization does not give you a valid roleplay reason to kill.
  3. You may partake in criminal activity with only members of your organization, party or radio frequency. This includes mugging, raiding, heists, and other miscellaneous criminal activities not already listed.
  4. When you are in an active party, this will override your involvement with your organization. These two groups must be exclusive from each other, and cannot assist each other.

The vehicle must be visibly non-operable or damaged. Police may request tow truck drivers to stop towing at any time.

[5.2] Law Enforcement

[5.2.1] General Law Enforcement Rules
  1. Law Enforcement may only use deadly force when the situation requires the protection of themselves or others (such as when a person is threatening your life, you may use your weapon in self-defense). You may not use deadly force against a vehicle unless it has caused great bodily harm and/or death or is actively attempting to do so (if it has knocked someone unconscious, killed someone, or is actively attempting to do so).
  2. All members of the Monoford Police Department or Pine County Sheriff's Office are required to follow the Monolith State Law Enforcement Policy Manual. Failure to follow this is considered corruption.

[5.2.3] Law Enforcement Raid Rules

  1. Police raids require clear evidence of illegal activity, such as video, screenshots, or direct observation. 911 calls alone are not sufficient evidence. Exceptions apply if law enforcement is actively under threat or pursuing a suspect into a property.
    1. Law Enforcement is exempt from this rule if their life or the life of others are in danger (ex: Being shot at or threatened with a deadly weapon, or a suspect they are actively chasing enters a property during the chase). If either of these situations occurs, they can immediately raid the property.
    2. Administrative reports regarding false police raids must be made before the end of the police raid, or the report will be closed, and the situation will be considered handled in character.
  2. As Law Enforcement, once you have performed a raid, regardless of whether or not the raid was successful, you cannot raid the same property again, unless you meet the rule requirements that permit law enforcement to raid a property.
  3. Law Enforcement who die at a scene may ignore NLR and return one time **if** called back by active units. [Two Life Rule]

  4. If there is no active chief online, staff reserve the exclusive right to open the bank vault.

[5.2.4] Police Detective Rules

  1. The detective is an undercover Law Enforcement Officer and may perform normal police duties. He's required to ID himself to Law Enforcement Officers when requested. Refusal of identification is not an option.
  2. Detectives may partake in illegal activities to maintain their undercover status during an active investigation.
  3. Detectives may not bait people into committing crimes. Civilians need to commit crimes on their own initiative.

[5.2.5] Department of Corrections

  1. Corrections cadets, officers, and warden's jurisdiction only covers the Penitentiary and the road leading to it. Cadets and officers need to remain inside the specified area, unless they are chasing prisoners escaping from prison.

  2. As the Mayor, you may not create unrealistic laws. A staff member will request that you revoke a law if they believe it is unrealistic.
  3. As the Mayor, you may not overrule a permanent law. Permanent laws are the laws that are already set whilst there are no active laws, and they are shown above your custom laws.
  4. As the Mayor, you may not carry any illegal weaponry. You are allowed to own a handgun. You are only allowed to carry it and use it if you are in danger.
  5. As the Mayor, you are not above the law and are liable for arrests and tickets like any other citizen.

[5.4] Emergency Services

[5.4.1] Emergency Services General Rules
  1. As a Medic, you are not allowed to be open-for-hire to be a combat medic, meaning you can not specifically assist organizations with medical supplies and medical assistance.
  2. As a Firefighter, you are not allowed to be for-hire to put out fires specifically for people's drug sets.
  3. You may not carry any weapons. If you are in danger, call the Police Department or Sheriff's Department.

  1. As a Secret Service agent, you do not share the same responsibilities, nor do you have the same jurisdiction as the Police Department or Sheriff's Department. You may therefore not perform police duties.
  2. Your role as a Secret Service employee is to protect the mayor; therefore, you may not put yourself up for hire while employed. Additionally, you must remain with the mayor at all times.
  3. As a Secret Service agent, you are not above the law. You are liable for arrests and tickets like any other citizen.
  4. The Secret Service may not harm any other government officials - like the Police Department and Sheriff’s Department.

[5.6] Security Guard

  1. As a Security Guard, you may only patrol inside any public building, bank, gas station, jewelry store and cargo ship.
  2. As a Security Guard, you may also patrol inside public businesses with the permission of the Head of Security and the business owner.
  3. As a Security Guard, you do not share the same jurisdiction as the local Police Department and Sheriff's Department but may use tools available for you within your assigned area of patrol. This includes crime prevention in that area.
    1. Security Guards may assist civilians in need and protect them within their allocated area of patrol. They are required to call the Police Department or Sheriff's Department for active investigation and hand over the scene.
    2. Security Guards may under no circumstances participate in police chases nor assist the Police Department and Sheriff's Department in active shootouts unless they happen within their allocated areas of patrol.
  4. Your assigned load-out may only be used against criminals within your assigned area of patrol, or in self-defense.
  5. Security guards may only participate in protecting an area they are patrolling if they are already on scene when a raid has begun.

Rewritten rule 4.06:

Do not jump into strangers' freshly spawned cars as that would be considered FailRP, give them enough time to take their own vehicle.

Added rule 4.20:

The zipties can not be used to confiscate items from a player without their consent, this includes but is not limited to, communication devices and weaponry. The identity hiding mask however can be taken off from a player.

You do no longer require a reason to raid somebody. However, the punishment for raiding someone hasn't been changed.

Update: 17.06.2017
Since we have moved forums, we've had an issue with our rule list as the format of our rules list. I have also renumbered some, as you probably know some rules had letters like Rule: 5.1.a - this will be changed to 5.1.1 etc.

Added:
[+] - Rule: 7.3.g - Added Rule: "The mayor is not above the law and is liable for arrest like any other citizen."

Changed:
[=] - Changed some basic spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes.
[=] - Rule: 2.11 - Added: "FearRP is not in effect when you are involved in a gunfight."
[=] - Rule: 4.4 - Added: "You must also take into account the time of day, if it is night then certain places which are unpopular/isolated you may mug, again, this may not be in front of an NPC and/or governmental buildings such as the Police Department, Hospital, Fire Department and City Hall."

23. You may not rob the bank with more than 4 people. This means only 4 people can participate in a bank robbery in total.
24. A maximum of only 2 hostages may be taken during a bank robbery. Hostages may not be killed unless the police ignored the demands of the robbers. Hostages may not be awarded any money from the bank robbery.
25. Hostages can not be from your own team, group or organization as this will count as FailRP.

General Rule regarding Robberies added to 4. Criminal Rules
26. During a robbery or something similar you may not put your weapon into your inventory to prevent loss. Deal with it - you are robbing someone or something.

Changelog 28.06.2017 - Stuvi
Changed Rearranged a couple of rules
Added Sections General - Mugging, Kidnapping and Robbing to [4] Criminal Rules
Added 4.1.3.1 'Carrying' is classified as having them equipped. Weapons stored in your inventory aren't classified as 'carrying' unless you performed an illegal act with them. Illegal acts include, but are not limited to, robberies, muggings and general shoot-outs.
Added 4.1.3.2 All weapons, except handguns, are automatically classified as illegal and can not be made illegal with a weapon license. A weapon license grants you the right to carry (= definition see 3.1) a weapon.
Added 4.2.2.1 You can not kill somebody for not giving out your requested amount of money if he does not have enough on him.
Moved 4.2.2.2 No more than $10,000 in cash can be mugged from another player in any robbery.
Added 4.2.2.3 As the victim you have to drop all your money (or at least make them think it is all your money) up to 10.000$ maximum.
Changed 4.2.7 You can only kidnap someone once every 45 minutes.
Added 4.2.8 During a hostage situation you may not ask for more than 5.000$ for each hostage.
Changed 4.2.15 During a mugging, you may also take; weapons, weed, LSD and any other illegal items from their inventory; regardless if it is equipped. This is limited to either max. two items (incl. weapons) in their inventory, max. two stacks of their inventory (excl. weapons) or one item and one stack in their inventory.
Changed 5.1.3 A bank robbery does not count as a raid. However, you may only rob the bank once every 60 minutes. This limit continues during a server crash.
Changed 8.2.13 You can not take any weapon from a persons inventory without a valid reason. You may take weapons that were used in a robbery or something similar from the suspect.

Rules will be enforced from now on. Rule suggestions can be sent to me via forum PM.

Update: 05.07.2017

If you have been tased do not instantly run off. Act realistically by crouching on the floor.
Added: 8.2.14 Do not abuse the taser; do not use it in a gunfight and do not tase people randomly.
Added: 2.26 You must not disrupt/direct player movement in a building, do not build a 'maze' like defence, this is discretional by an administrator, however, can be over-ruled by a higher up.
Added: 2.27 You must not block off any entrances/exits to your building.
